My name is Alice Orr, and I have lived through cancer to become, not just a survivor, but a thriver.
Shortly after my diagnosis, I jumped into blogging the way I have jumped into most of my life, feet first, head last.
All I knew at the time was that I wanted to keep on writing because writing brings me fully alive however sorely challenged that vitality may be.
I had suddenly been confronted with a long list of cannot's in the midst of a can-do life.
I won't go through my personal cannot list here. To create a vivid picture of what I'm talking about, conjure a list of your own.
Begin by looking at any one of your days, from the small irritants to the not-so-small blessings. Imagine a long express train, unexpected and unwanted, barreling at full speed down the main track of that day.
Everything else must leap to the sidelines as this roaring engine crashes through. Each of those sidelined activities, thoughts and preoccupations however trivial or grand becomes a cannot.
That's how personal catastrophe feels to all of us, whatever that catastrophe may be.
We have two choices then. Give up, or find a way back to some variation of the can-do track. A way that can work for us in each of our unscheduled freight train situations.
My hope is that what I write here might offer us all help through life's inevitable derailments.
My hope is that my words may be inspiring or at least interesting to you as we all stumble toward the light.

My name is Alice, and I have a story to tell.
In the beginning, this story was about my cancer experience. Since then, it has evolved into a story about life experience.
At the center of every life is struggle. At the center of every good story is struggle.
This is my story of struggle told, as often as I can manage it, from the bright side of my road.
